Find out what training with Mick's Mannered Mutts will look like for you and your pup!

Where will training sessions be held?

All initial sessions are held at a public park, either in the community of Legacy, Calgary or once a month, in Okotoks.  It is best for me to see your dog in a neutral environment first while we set up training foundations. If necessary, we can set up an in home session at a later date as my availability allows.

How many sessions do I need?

Depending on how long a dog has been practicing the unwanted behavior, it usually takes at least a few sessions of repetition for them to grasp new behaviors and concepts! As well, a lot of the training will be focused on teaching you new handling skills and ways to communicate effectively with your dog. This can take a multiple sessions for you to feel confident handling your dog in all settings. I always give homework for you to work on with your dog between sessions so that minimal sessions are needed with me. A dogs progress will greatly depend on how much time the owners are able to put in.

3

What kind of training do you do?

I focus on balancing the dog-human relationship with all members in the house. Most behavior problems stem from an imbalance in the household dynamics between the dog and their humans. By finding and addressing the root cause of the behavior issues, most issues melt away fairly easily. This method fits under the balanced training umbrella.

4

What is balanced training?

Balanced training involves the use of both positive reinforcement including food and praise as rewards as well as a firm but fair correction through the use of sound, space and touch when needed. This allows me to effectively communicate in a way that dogs naturally understand. This is the method that is most effective to communicate clearly and eliminate frustration for both the dog and handler. I love teaching these methods to owners so that they can enjoy effective and lasting training with their dogs.
